The Western Wall Plaza is open all year round, 24 hours a day, and is the site for many national and private ceremonies, including - Memorial Day ceremonies, military induction ceremonies, national prayer gatherings and private bar mitzvah celebrations.
The Western Wall is open to visitors at all times.
- Due to the shortage of parking spaces, we recommend getting to the Western Wall by public transportation.
- You can take Bus # 1,3, or 38, or come by taxi.
- You can also come by private car and park in the following parking lots:
- Carta Parking, at the entrance to the Old City near Jaffa Gate (hourly rate)
- Mount Zion Parking - meant for buses only (free)
- Brides and grooms on the day of their wedding may enter by car through Jaffa Gate with advanced arrangements made with the Office of the Rabbi of the Western Wall at 02-6263345, ext. 200.
- "Free to The Old City" - Free bus service from a special stop in the parking lot of the First Station to Dung Gate, every 20 minutes, Sun-Thurs from 8am to 8pm.
- On Shabbat and festivals it is forbidden to smoke, take pictures, or use a cellular phone.
- Pets are not allowed into the Western Wall Plaza.
- One must follow any orders given by security officials at the entrance to the plaza.
- Dress must be modest.
- It is forbidden to bring musical instruments into the Western Wall Plaza area
During a fascinating tour of the Western Wall Tunnels – Hidden layers of the Wall are revealed underground. They tell the story of ancient Jerusalem and of generations of longing for it.
The tour takes approximately an hour and 15 minutes.
Opening hours:
Sunday – Thursday: 7am – evening (depending on reservations).
Fridays and on the eve of festivals: 7am – 12pm
The site is closed on Shabbat and festivals, and on the eve of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana, and on Tisha B'av.
On Chol Ha'moed the site is open as usual (with a reservation and payment).
Visitation of the site is only through guided tours which must be ordered in advance.
Tours are given in English and in Hebrew. During the month of August tours are given in French as well.
